Local Trails
There are many local trails in the area. Here are some with which the Ramblers have been involved.
GM Ringway
A 200-mile circular route split into 20 stages easily accessed by public transport. The GM Ringway website gives full details.
The Cown Edge Way
An 18-mile walking trail from Hazel Grove to Gee Cross. The trail was created by the Manchester Area of the Ramblers based on an idea from Frank Mason and Leslie Meadowcroft, and was helped to fruition by Dr Frank Head. It was opened on the 26th September 1970.
The trail described on the Ramblers' website is split into parts for easy access by public transport:
- Part 1: Cooper Street, Hazel Grove to Bridge 7, Macclesfield Canal. 3.1 miles (5 km).
- Part 2: Bridge 7 to Longhurst Lane, Mellor. 3 miles (4.9 km).
- Parts 3 and 4: Longhurst Lane to Lee Head on the A626, West of Charlesworth. 5.4 miles (8.7 km).
- Parts 5 and 6: Lee Head to the A560, South of Gee Cross. 5.2 miles (8.4 km).

The Salford Trail
A 50-mile (80-km) circular route within the boundaries of the City of Salford split into 10 sections, each accessible by public transport. The current trail was developed by a team of Ramblers volunteers from the Manchester and Salford Group but its origins go back to some thoughts of Roy Bullock in 2007. By mid-2012 Roy and Al Tomlinson had created a website with the route and related information.
